The Egyptian archaeological mission uncovered parts of an ancient necropolis dating back to the Old Kingdom at the south-eastern corner of the Pyramids archaeological site. The necropolis includes many burial caves and tombs, the oldest of which is a family cemetery dating back to the Fifth Dynasty. Built of limestone, the tomb belongs to two persons named Hanui-ka and Nui, and was later reused in the Late Period. Inside the tomb, archaeologists uncovered many wooden coffins having anthropomorphic shapes and dating back to that same era. The disclosure was announced amid local and international media coverage (May 4)
