GEM Receives 309 New Objects

The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) received 309 historical objects dating to different time periods. The objects include 64 pieces coming in from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir, through the aid of security service and tourist and antiquities police.

          Major general Atif Moftah, General Director of the Grand Egyptian Museum and the surrounding area, stated that these objects will be incorporated into the museum's display scenario, where some of them will be displayed on the Grand Staircase and others will be placed in the exhibition halls chronologically.
          Dr. El Tayyib Abbas, Director of Archaeological Affairs, added that one of the most important objects is the statue of Ramses II, behind whom stands a deity, a statue of the goddess Sekhmet, a statue of King Sety II, and a pink granite stela of King Ramses IV, in addition to a collection of unique statues that reflect the beauty of ancient Egyptian art.
          Dr. Essa Zidan, Director General of Executive Affairs for Restoration and Transportation of Antiquities at the Grand Egyptian Museum, said that the transportation process was preceded by several different stages, including a 3D radar examination and preliminary restoration work on some of the pieces. He indicated that the transport work was carried out in cooperation with the Arab Contractors Company, which follows the highest standards of safety and security policies. The operations also took place under the supervision of specialists at the Grand Egyptian Museum, where objects relics were weighed ranging from 4 to 16 tons, in addition to another variety of pieces of wood, stones and minerals, which were placed in the restoration laboratories designated for each of them to undergo restoration work
