With an invitation from the team of Usama Rabea', chairman of the Suez Canal, H.E Minister of Antiquities Dr. Khaled al-Anani participated in the 150th anniversary of the Suez Canal (1869-2019) for maritime navigation. The celebrations took place in the new port in Ismailia, east of the canal.
The celebration was attended by H.E Ambassador Stefan Roumate, ambassador of France in Egypt, as well as Chairman of the Friends of Ferdinand De Lesseps Association and members of the Board of the Suez Canal.
During the celebrations, the attendants watched a documentary detailing the different phases of the Suez Canal since its inception and its importance to maritime trade. The Chairman of the Suez Canal presented the organization's shield to H.E the Minister of Antiquities in memory of the occasion.
Then H.E Dr. Khaled al-Anani and Usama Rabea's team proceeded to the first administrative building of the Suez Canal Organization in Ismailia. There they inspected operations on the restoration and re-employment of the building to establish it as a museum narrating the history of the Suez Canal. Work on these projects began last April and 65% has been completed. The project is scheduled to open in the middle of 2020.
