It was built by al-Amir (Prince) Manjak al-Silahdar in 748 AH / 1347 AD. Al-Amir Manjak was one of the most prominent princes during the reign of Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qalawun. One of the most important positions that he held was the position of Silahdariyya, who had the responsibility of overseeing the army’s weapon stores.
This gate is a part of the palace of al-Amir Manjak al-Silahdar, of which only this part of the palace remains.
The gate’s façade is adorned with al-Amir Manjak’s rank (emblem) which is in the shape of a sword. The entrance leads to a square vestibule, the floor of which is lower than the street level and this vestibule is roofed with a stone dome.
