With the beginning of the new year, the Valley of the Kings and Deir el-Bahari regions on the western bank of Luxor witnessed the start of operating environmentally friendly electric cars to transport visitors within the archaeological area, within the framework of the keenness of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to use modern technology and activate the basics of sustainable tourism to preserve the environment in archaeological sites.
Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, explained that this step also comes within the framework of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities’ project to develop visitor services at 30 archaeological sites at the level of the Republic as a first stage, in order to work on improving and enriching the experience of visitors during their tour of archaeological sites and encouraging them to visit several times.
For his part, Mr. Hussein Al-Rifai, Head of the Finance Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said that 20 electric cars were operated today, 12 of them in the Valley of the Kings and 8 in Deir al-Bahari, pointing out that these cars were present at the entrance gates to the archaeological area during the official visiting hours scheduled to transport visitors.
It should be noted that visitors to the Valley of the Kings and Deir el-Bahari regions were received today with flowers and music to celebrate the New Year.
