Opening of the Qaitbay Citadel Visitor Center in Alexandria

As apart of the directives of Mr. Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, to exert every effort to improve the quality of services provided to visitors to museums and archaeological sites and provide a unique tourist experience, the Qaitbay Citadel Visitor Center was inaugurated. The center was set up inside one of the halls of the citadel's main tower in Alexandria, in cooperation with the French Center for Alexandrian Studies.

Dr. Basem Ibrahim, Director General of the General Administration of Tourist, Archaeological Sites, and Museum Services, indicated that the center provides necessary information on a number of unique archaeological sites, such as the Royal Port, the Timonium Building, Antrodos Island, the sea docks, and the shipyards.

The visitor center also covers the development of Alexandria's defensive fortifications, focusing on the historical role of the Qaitbay Citadel, along with the fortifications constructed during the reign of Muhammad Ali Pasha along the northern coast. He added that the center's display features nine bilingual information panels (Arabic and English), supported by maps and illustrative diagrams that facilitate understanding of the historical and architectural sequence of the area , In addition to a screen showing a film about the ancient lighthouse site, and seating for visitors to rest.
