Detection of 30 colored wooden human sarcophagi in good condition of preservation

In front of world wide news coverage, Dr. Khaled el-Anani, Minister of Antiquities, officially announced the success of the Egyptian archaeological mission headed by Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, in discovering a cachet in the Asasif Cemetery. The cachet included a unique group of thirty wooden colored anthropoid coffins belonging men, women, and children. The coffins were in good condition, with the inscriptions fully preserved. They were discovered in the position in which they were buried in ancient times, closed and containing mummies within, arranged one on top of the other. The first level contained eighteen coffins, and the second contained twelve. The Minister of Antiquities described the discovery as "the first intact large coffin cachet discover since the end of the nineteenth century", and today, after more than a century, Egyptian archaeologists have added this new cachet to the discoveries of Luxor.
