The Egyptian mission working in the Manqabad area of Assiut's archaeological district has uncovered a mud-brick building dating back to the period between the 6th and 7th centuries AD.
The discovered building was covered with a layer of white mortar and consists of two levels. Inside, a number of important murals were found, including the remains of a mural with important symbolism in Coptic art, as its subject repeatedly represents eyes with a face in the middle, indicating the inner spiritual insight that may be hidden from many who live the life and love of the world. It is a symbol of wisdom, awakening and vigilance in matters of pastoral care.
