The Residence Saray is one of the oldest buildings of the palace with its construction begun in 1321 AH /1903 AD. It consists of a basement and two floors in addition to the tower. The basement contains a lot of rooms. The ground floor includes the foyer with a fountain in its centre. A number of rooms are accessed from here, including the Dining Room, Shell Salon with its furniture inlaid with mother of pearl, and the Fireplace Room attached to it. Across the entrance into the foyer is the doorway into the Mirrors Hall, where literature and poetry were read, a number of rooms and halls are attached to it: large Blue Salon with its ornate ceiling, beautiful oil paintings, and European-style leather couches, the office of Prince Muhammad Ali, and a room reserved for women. On the right side of the large salon is a smaller seating area with a wonderful muqarnas roof (stalactite -like shapes)
